Our Cable Fire Stop Barrier Systems are installed under Control Panel Openings, Wall / Floor Openings (made for passage of electrical cables) and is essential in areas where several cables converge in bunches, through conduits, pipes etc. The barrier effectively compartmentalizes the locations and will reduce / prevent the risk of fire spread. It will not allow the propagation of fire for over 3 hours and will also ensure a smoke and gas-tight joint.
Fire needs three basic elements to start. This is called the fire triangle. If any one of the three elements is missing, fire will not ignite, or, if it is already burning, removing one of the three will quench the flames. The three elements are:
- FUEL: Fire needs something to consume. Fuel can be a solid, a liquid or a gas.
- OXYGEN: Fire needs oxygen to burn. An atmosphere with less than 16% oxygen will not allow a fire to burn.
- HEAT: Without energy needed to burn, flames die.
- RE-ENTRY HEAT: Heat arising from burning cables that, in turn, pre-heats cables stacked above. Pre-heating causes cable insulation to degrade and emit flammable fumes to assist in spread of fire.
- RADIATIVE HEAT: The heat radiating downward from the flame that causes continued heating and decomposition of cable insulation.
Indian Standard has recommended certain code of safety vide IS: 12459, which requires cables to be compartmentalized by sealing the wall openings / Floor Openings / opening under control panels / creating compartments in long galleries by using suitable fire stop barriers. It is added that the Fire Barriers are installed on electrical cables already laid in the Plant.

We could also assist your personnel at a very nominal cost (Rs.5000/- lump sum, inclusive of service tax) to identify locations / critical zones that require minor or major installations based on our 17 years of valuable experience. If acceptable, please confirm the same, for us to depute our personnel to your plant site for doing the needful. As against yearly insurance premiums a little investment in installing Fire Prevention Systems will enable the industry to be better prepared in case of a fire and should certainly be preferred to insurance compensation.
In fact, insurance premiums get discounted on application of these systems. Your factory has been meticulously following fire & safety rules and regulations in all activities and we presume these products will go a long way in maintenance of the same.

Technical Data
Technically Sound
KF-604 Single Component Fire/Water Stop Barriers are 100% indigenous fire retardant with various benefits.
- Fire Rating : 3 hours
- Vibration Test : Passes for 4 hours
- Rodent / termite : No effect
- Radiation : No effect
- Effect on cable jacketing material : None
- Water Absorption : No effect
- Shelf Life : Max. 3 Months if stored in a
dry place in shade / enclosed
area
- Wall / Floor cut – outs in buildings/rooms, where cables/cable trays pass through
- Below Panel Openings in control rooms/cable galleries/cable vaults
- Functions by limiting the oxygen drawn from the atmosphere, thereby inhibiting the combustion and heat build-up process in the immediate vicinity of the cable insulation.
- Dissipates the heat generated by the fire and thereby prevents heat conduction.
Consumption calculation and estimation:
With cable occupancy of minimum 30%, consumption of KF 604 will be approximately 160 to 170 Kgs per
square meter. If cable occupancy is higher, less material shall be needed to fill 1 square meter. Standard
thickness: 200mm
- Find an empty open, flat space, and place a plastic sheet/tarpaulin on the ground
- Open 2 to 3 bags, 25 Kgs each depending on the space and consumption at a time
- Make a small heap with a crater in the center, similar method as used for cement mixture
- Add clean water in the center and allow soaking for a few minutes
- Using your hands start mixing the powder with the water to achieve thick clay like consistency of
the material - Make circular elongated shapes as shown in the image, and stock on side. After making enough as
per estimation, take material to site of application - Ensure proper shuttering on opposite side of opening to avoid spillage of material
- After filling of opening with KF 604 material, ensure proper surfacing and finishing to make flush
with neighboring walls - Clear any debris or balance material and dispose properly
- Please note, at certain locations, ambient temperature being high, causing the barrier system to dry
quickly can lead to thin hairline cracks developing on the surface of the barrier. Using a slurry
solution of KF604 using more water and less material, must be used to fill the cracks and provide a
neat finishing - Please note: for larger openings, usage of steel rods or angles might be required within the opening
to achieve strong hold and support for the system to ensure longer life - To achieve a hard dry status, we recommend a drying/curing period of 72 hours in ambient
conditions. After this time, the barrier shall be water resistant and flame resistant and retain its
properties for a longer period - Please note: once a packet has been opened, consume at once, do not store for later application as
the material might catch moisture and harden losing its properties. It is recommended to open only
packets required per location at a time.
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT STORE MATERIAL IN THE OPEN
It must be placed in a covered shed to avoid drying up and damaging of material inside
- For 250mm Thickness: 1 Sq.Meter – 220 – 260 Kgs / Sq.meter – 4 Hours Rating
- For 200mm Thickness : 1 Sq.Meter – 165 – 200 Kgs / Sq.meter – 3 Hours Rating
- For 100mm Thickness : 1 Sq.Meter – 90 – 120 Kgs / Sq.meter – 2 Hours Rating
25 Kg Bags
STORAGE:
Please store the product in covered area and not exposed to direct sunlight or heat as the product is water based and may dry up, losing its adherent properties.
